ChangingAging Tour’s Reno stop inspires residents to shatter aging myths
Holiday Retirement communities have been abuzz with the news that internationally acclaimed longevity expert and geriatrician Dr. Bill Thomas has been named Holiday Retirement’s first-ever chief wellness officer. Well, Reno-area residents from Holiday Retirement’s Carson Plaza and Sky Peaks senior living communities recently attended Dr. Thomas’ 2017 ChangingAging Tour as it rolled through Nevada, taking part in this important (and fun!) event, which seeks to redefine society’s views around aging.
More than 25 Holiday Retirement residents hopped on buses to catch Disrupt Dementia and Life’s Most Dangerous Game, the tour’s two unique performances, which are aimed at changing the current perception of age and aging through research, live music, art and storytelling.
The residents left the event feeling informed and exhilarated, conversing with one another about the different perspectives on aging and even singing on the bus ride back to their homes. Most important, the tour stop filled the residents with hope and excitement for the future.
“Society says being young is all that matters, but this event demonstrated that there’s more of life to live. Whether it’s wisdom or more time to spend with loved ones, there’s so much to offer in later years,” said Melissa Clements, enrichment coordinator at Carson Plaza.
Bolstering our commitment to help older adults enjoy active, fulfilling lifestyles, Holiday Retirement is partnering with the 2017 ChangingAging Tour, a nationwide series of performance events dedicated to shattering American culture’s damaging myths about aging.
