Holiday residents honored in Senior Living SMART Holiday Art Contest
Two residents from Rocky Ridge, a local senior living community, were recently honored for their artistic talents and creativity in the Senior Living SMART Holiday Art Contest. Senior living residents around the country were invited to submit original artwork to the contest, and the winning artwork will be available on customized holiday cards.
Barbara Patronsky, 91, has enjoyed painting since her late 40s. Before calling Rocky Ridge home, she had her own studio at home where she created her art, and then matted and framed her own pictures. Barbara submitted a painting, “Star of Bethlehem,” portraying iconic imagery, to the Holiday Art Contest.
“I stumbled on my ‘Star of Bethlehem’ painting by accident one day and a fellow Rocky Ridge resident encouraged me to submit it to the Holiday Art Contest,” said Barbara. “I feel so honored to be chosen as one of the winners, especially at 91!”
Eloise Legg, 95, a talented artist who found her love of painting around the age of 50, enjoys painting china plates and tea sets as gifts for friends and family. Eloise submitted “Mr. & Mrs. Claus,” depicting a cheery, rosy-cheeked Santa and Mrs. Claus, to the Holiday Art Contest.
“The china plates I submitted to the contest are very special to me. I’ve painted several versions as gifts for friends and family,” said Eloise. “I’m so happy to be recognized in the Holiday Art Contest.”
The Senior Living SMART Holiday Art Contest was designed to give residents the opportunity to express their talents and creativity. Residents were asked to submit one digital photograph of artwork that represented holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukkah) memories. Winners will receive a package of customized holiday cards with their winning artwork. Customized holiday cards with artwork from the contest are available for purchase through December 15.
