Oregon State University roommates reunite at Garden Valley
For two residents at Garden Valley, the world just got a little bit smaller.
In 1946, Betty Alldredge and Mickey Pederson embarked on their college adventures and became roommates when they joined the same co-op at Oregon State University. Much like a sorority, Betty and Mickey shared the co-op house with about 20 other girls who all took part in cooking, cleaning, and doing chores around the house.
Betty and Mickey became fast friends at the co-op, and the two college co-eds often socialized and dated in the same groups. In fact, Betty and Mickey enjoyed many a double date during their college years and even met their husbands-to-be while studying at OSU!
Fast forward nearly 70 years later to the Garden Valley dining room.
Mickey had been living at the retirement community when Betty moved in and the two serendipitously sat down at the same table. After making small talk about their pasts, Betty and Mickey quickly recognized one another and began reminiscing about all their college adventures, including day trips to the Oregon coast with their husbands-to-be.
“It’s been a pleasure knowing Mickey and this occurrence has been serendipitous,” said Betty. “In a lot of ways, we’re like sisters. We looked out for another back in college and we look out for each other now here at Garden Valley.”
