Infectious smile and personality boosts Pinewood Hills resident into the triple digits
As a member of the welcoming committee at Pinewood Hills, Evelyn Coulter is usually the one welcoming new residents and throwing parties for others. However, on December 9, 2014, all attention was on Evelyn for the celebration of her 101st birthday.
According to her fellow neighbors, Evelyn, a resident at the independent senior living community in Flower Mound, Texas, for the last four years, has always been the welcoming type. As one new resident recalls, Evelyn was the first person to make her feel welcome by bringing her a handmade sachet bonnet and notepad made of cross-stitch.
On December 9, it was Evelyn who was the recipient of cards, gifts, and well wishes from family and friends. Her strong ties to the community were displayed in the Denton County Constable’s insistence to provide and decorate the cake for the celebration.
Evelyn is known around Pinewood Hills not only for her welcoming personality, but also for her youthful vitality and infectious positivity. As one resident noted, “I would have never believed she was 101 years old, 80 maybe.” It is this infectious positivity that has people insisting Evelyn should have fewer than 101 candles to blow out on her birthday cake.
Based on Evelyn’s philosophy, it appears the secret to looking and feeling 20 years younger is relatively straightforward: always wear a smile and look for a good laugh.
