Celtic music composer keeps Maple Downs residents in touch with their heritage
St. Patrick’s Day falls only once each year, but at Maple Downs in Fayetteville, New York, residents can be reminded of their Irish heritage all year long! Thanks to resident Phil K., who released a CD of Celtic music, residents can perfect their Irish jig before St. Patty’s Day in 2016!
Phil’s CD features piano and instrumentals, played purely impromptu by Phil. At 84 years old, the composer and entertainer has been called “Central New York’s Premier Piano Man.” Which is quite the accomplishment for Phil, who boasts a repertoire of more than 3,000 songs and six CDs!
“Phil’s Celtic music has brought joy and entertainment into the lives our residents,” said Karen Giblin, enrichment coordinator for Maple Downs. “It’s inspiring to see the passion and dedication he has for music when he performs.”
The musically inclined Maple Downs resident is a retired music professor who performed many times between the 1920s and 1950s. Today, he is a nationally renowned composer, vocalist, music educator, and beloved entertainer. He has loyal audiences nationwide, including residents at Maple Downs.
